Blood pressure and blood cholesterol rise with stress. Stress depletes your immune system, productivity, energy and enthusiasm. A study of 3 control groups with PMS (Pre-Menstrual Syndrome) had one group taking medication, another taking a placebo, and the third taking two daily 30 minute relaxation therapy sessions. It was the third group that showed the greatest benefit in easing the pain and discomfort of PMS. That's but one example!
Yoga exercise has remarkable relaxation qualities, so while you lengthen, strengthen and streamline your muscles, and become firmer and more flexible, you are also learning how to relax and let go of stress and tension, thus easing the damaging effects to your immune system.
